This is my 3rd year with BBM. I’m generally not a motivated exercise person. I pay for memberships at gyms and never go. Brain and Body is one of the few things that have stuck. My schedule is volatile and they have easily accommodated last minute request and changes. Most importantly having a dedicated instructor get me through the workout is a game changer. It’s a 30 minute workout where I feel taken care of by the BBM team. The instructor sets up the equipment, takes into consideration how my body is feeling that day, makes adjustments to my movements, and guides/ motivates me so I can get the most out of my 30 minutes. I’m in and out the door feeling accomplished! On days that I have more time I ask for a recovery session ( love their machines) or I do a 1 hour session. The flexibility is great. I love that each machine records your progress so you can see how much you are pushing yourself. BBM’s one year plan is also probably one of the best deals around! This unpretentious cozy gym is a hidden gem in Essex county!Posted on Google![]()

When I arrived on the doorstep of BBM almost a year ago, I was physically broken and skeptical at best about my chances of overcoming or improving my physical limitations. In fact, I was entirely convinced that I was just getting older and pain was something that I was going to have to accept and learn to live with. Nevertheless, I reluctantly agreed to join at the behest of my wife, reasoning that it made more sense to spend money proactively seeking a solution to my pain than passively giving up the fight only to pay for medications and surgeries to treat it down the road. I had already tried PT, acupuncture, yoga, tai chi, etc. Not that those things didn't help, but due to my own prioritization of other aspects of my busy life (family, work, etc.), lack of time, consistency, motivation and perhaps self discipline, I found that nothing had really provided lasting relief. I was never one to enjoy working out in a gym, preferring instead to be active outside, but with fewer opportunities and diminishing ability, I found myself instead showing up begrudgingly to drag myself through those first sessions (my trainers I'm sure can attest). I would bolster my resolve with the mantra: "It's just 30 minutes, twice a week." Invariably, I always left feeling better than when I went and if nothing else, from very early on, my experience with BBM gave me hope that improvement was indeed possible. Again, now nearly a year in, I believe in spite of myself, that BBM has undoubtedly been the most important factor in the improvement of the overall quality of my mobility, strength and even my mental health. The level of pain and discomfort that I now feel in parts of my body that I assumed I would need surgeries on, is almost non-existent. And with the reduced pain and increased mobility, I've made a return to activities that I really enjoyed as a younger person which have further added to my appreciation of BBM's role in my life. I now look at my sessions as an opportunity to train so I can continue doing things I enjoy, creating a positive feedback loop. I no longer have to think about when I'm going to get time to work out. I just show up consistently and BBM takes care of me. The trainers are knowledgeable and friendly. The sessions fly by and now I look forward to going each week. ❤️Posted on Google![]()

I have been training with Brain & Body for almost a year and I'm pleasantly surprised as to how much stronger, better balance and toned I've become. At 67 I honestly didn't think this could be achieved by only training 2x a week for 30 minutes! The one on one training is great and my workouts are specifically geared for me. It has exceeded my expectations!Posted on Google![]()

It's time to update my review from two years ago! I cannot say enough about the effectiveness of my Brain and Body Method workouts and recovery sessions. The staff are well trained, experienced, smart and encouraging. The equipment is constantly refreshed and enhanced. The owners keep raising the bar to help their clients live in good health. . .in all of its dimensions. Many businesses start strong and plateau or deteriorate. Lex and Mark, the owners, keep building, gowing and investing and we are the lucky recipients of their commitment. Everything I wrote in my first review is still true . . . I get results, I am having fun, and I enthusiastically recommend you try it! Here's what I wrote two years ago. . . Over the last 45+ years, I have exercised, played various sports, and danced. I have attended (and taught) fitness classes, spent hours lifting weights, swimming laps, running; playing golf, tennis, and skiing; practicing Yoga, Pilates, and even some Tai Chi. I have been coached by personal trainers and been in and out of physical therapy since 2000 when I blew out my knee skiing. I am 68 years old and I am cautious of fitness solutions and fads. My health and my time are precious. That's why I appreciate the Brain and Body Method and the professional staff who work with me and other clients to improve our health and fitness efficiently. The Brain and Body Method is unique and compelling with flexible, competitive pricing. Customized 30-minute sessions are professionally coached. State of the art equipment tracks your results in real time. The Method ticks all the boxes: cardio, core, cognitive, strength, mobility, safety, community, and recovery. It's effective and efficient. And, it's fun. Really fun! Give it a try. Soon, you will be writing a review like this one.Posted on Google![]()

As a busy professional, finding time for fitness always felt like one more impossible task on an already packed schedule. Training here has completely changed that for me. The 30-minute sessions make it realistic to stay consistent—I can truly get in, work hard, and get out without disrupting my day. Even though the workouts are short, they are incredibly effective. I’ve noticed significant improvements in my strength, energy, and overall fitness. I feel stronger, healthier, and more capable than I have in years, which is a testament to how efficient and well-designed the program is. What really sets this experience apart is the constant guidance and support from the trainers. Every session is supervised by knowledgeable professionals who ensure that I’m using proper form, staying safe, and pushing myself appropriately. Their encouragement and expertise make every workout productive and motivating. The advanced equipment is another huge benefit. Being able to track my progress with the latest technology keeps me accountable and allows me to clearly see how far I’ve come. For anyone with a demanding schedule who wants a safe, effective, and time-efficient way to build strength and improve health, this program is an excellent investment. It has made consistency possible for me, and the results speak for themselves. Mark and Lex are exceptional owners who truly listen to your needs and offer thoughtful ideas tailored to your well-being. The team of trainers is wonderful—patient, attentive, and genuinely focused on understanding your strengths and weaknesses. It’s a challenging workout, but incredibly rewarding. 💪Posted on Google![]()

UPDATE: It's now been almost 3 years since I started at Brain & Body Method. I still love it! I've progressed so much in terms of overall strength and energy, and just can't thank Lex, Mark, and the team there enough for everything they do. This is the longest I've ever stuck with a new program because I truly enjoy it! ______________ I've been going to Brain & Body Method for 9 months now, and I can't recommend it highly enough. I actually enjoy going there (and even look forward to it) -- something I've never experienced with any other workout! Mark, Lex, Ardit and Suzi are all excellent trainers, and you can tell that they genuinely care about their clients and are excited seeing them progress. They are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and motivating, working one-on-one with each client at their own pace so that you gradually get stronger and fitter. There are no drill sergeants here! They guide you to better physical and mental health in a way that's gentle, highly effective, and safe. Since I've started, I've gained muscle, I move around much more easily, I've lost inches around my waist and hips, and my core is noticeably stronger. Their equipment is state-of-the-art and actually fun to use, since you can track your progress (which also helps with motivation)! It's also super-efficient. You'll be in & out in just 30 minutes. Highly recommend!Posted on Google![]()

I have always wanted to do regular consistent strength training but could never find the time, self-discipline or the right trainer to make this happen. Recently, after some weight loss, I wanted to regain muscle. I also play tennis and pickleball and was hoping weight training would improve my game. After trying out their high tech equipment and their 30-minute sessions, which seem to have the impact of a longer time frame, I joined up with Brain and Body Method. So far it has been one of the best life decisions I have made. The owners, Lex and Mark and their staff of expert trainers are kind, friendly and super knowledgeable about form. Every trainer I have worked with has been positive and motivating. In the past, I had to push myself to exercise but these days I look forward to my three sessions every week and the warm smiles I get when I walk through their door. In just half a year, I feel the effects: I am stronger and more toned. And I'm happy to report feeling more energy and stamina when playing racquet sports. Thank you Brain and Body Method!Posted on Google![]()

Lex and Mark and their team will push your body to the limit in the nicest way! Within a few shorts weeks I already felt much stronger and more capable, aches and pains subsiding - the short workouts make it easy for a full time working mom to stick with the program. It’s truly good for body and mind - I walk (sometimes very slowly 🤪) out of the studio feeling accomplished and with a clear mind. Highly recommend, I hope to continue until I’m 90!Posted on Google![]()

I’ve really enjoy training here!!! The workouts are short but challenging and effective, and my functional strength has improved considerably since I started. Each session is guided by one of the gym’s personal trainers, who are knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. I’m in and out in less than 30 minutes, which limits disruption to my day and helps me stay consistent. Overall, it’s a great gym, and I'm constantly recommending it to just about everyone!!!Posted on Google![]()

I have been attending trainer-led sessions at Brain and Body Method twice a week for over a year now. At 70, I consider it essential for my continued well being that I build and maintain my strength as I move through life. Muscle loss accelerates significantly at my age and I am determined to not let it affect my everyday functioning when I am older. Brain and Body Method provides me with excellent one-on-one training, and a schedule and atmosphere that supports me in coming in regularly for trainings. At a gym, I am more apt to tell myself "I'll go to the gym tomorrow". The trainings are varied and interesting, with excellent trainers, and specialized equipment. In addition, I have found the staff to be very responsive to my needs. I am stronger, healthier, and more energized since joining Brain and Body. I highly recommend you sign up for their free trials and find out for yourself!Posted on Google![]()

I have been training with Brain and Body Method for about 8 months now and I’m so glad I joined. I appreciate the supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere. Each member is working to better themselves and is not in competition with each other. The trainers are incredible. They are knowledgeable and professional. Each one makes the effort to develop a rapport and give personalized attention. They tailor everything to my needs, challenge me, and make sure I'm always learning proper form. Exercise has always been a priority for me. With a recent bone scan showing some osteopenia, I was determined to find ways to reverse that. Each session at Brain and Body Method is effective and customized for me. I have noticed tangible fitness improvements. I feel stronger and leaner. I think the best part is that I look forward to my workouts and appreciate how quickly I am able to get such an effective workout done.Posted on Google![]()

For two years, I was in and out of physical therapy. Hamstring issues, lower back pain, knee injury, and then, shoulder pain. Even though I have always been active and fit, I was missing a level of strength and mobility. A bone density scan at 52 showed the signs of emerging osteo issues. I started working with the Brain and Body crew 7 months ago. Great team, practical and integrated in how they approach building strength, stability, and mobility. I see the signs of improvement. I feel stronger, more stable, balanced, and have increased mobility and flexibility in all the things I love to do…yoga, pilates, gardening, paddleboarding, and hiking. And, I haven’t needed physical therapy since I started working with the team!!Posted on Google![]()

Fifteen months ago, I was at a very low ebb, having broken my wrist and subsequently been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I recently received the results of my second DEXA scan, and my bone strength has increased across the board. Although some of these reversals can be attributed to nutrition and supplements, I credit Brain & Body Method with helping me to understand what my body needs right now and to so sympathetically and patiently working with me twice a week for the past year. Mark and Lex have created a place that works wonders. If you are prepared to put the work in yourself, they and their trainers are with you every step of the way. I've been pushed beyond what I thought possible and feel better physically and mentally in every way. I simply can't imagine life without my twice-weekly visits and love the safe way they work with me. Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

I am so happy I overcame my skepticism and gave this a try! After kids, life, joining the “sandwich generation” and Covid… I was trying to get out of a 10 year sedentary rut that was sucking all my energy. I went back to CrossFit, it felt punishing at my age; I tried classes; pilates and a home gym but with a crazy schedule the time I could dedicate to these was not making enough of a difference to stay motivated and justify the stress of carving the time in the first place. After the second trial session at B&BM I was sold! I signed up for a year, which I have never done before. The year has passed, I just renewed and I am still as excited as the first day. My energy is back, my neck and back stoped bothering me, I sleep through de night every night and, the best part, I still look forward to going. Everyone there is just the right mix of friendly and buisness and very good at what they do! Another great thing, regardless of age or fitness level (for real) you’ll be surprised the how soon you can feel the benefits. I know these are big claims people, I wouldn’t bother to review otherwise. TRY IT!!!Posted on Google![]()

I’ve been skiing most of my life, and now, approaching 50, I actually feel stronger on the slopes than ever. No more soreness or tightness after a full day out—and that’s thanks to Brain & Body. The workouts are just 30 minutes, which makes it easy to fit into my schedule. Every session is guided by a great trainer who keeps it safe, effective, and tailored to me. I've been working out at Brain & Body for almost a year and continue to see the benefits of it every day. As a mother of 2 young children, the efficiency of the workout and the quality of that training (in the short 30 minutes) is of utmost importance. The care that Mark, Lex, and the rest of the trainers put into each client that walks through the door is unmatched from anywhere else I've worked out; they truly design the workout to meet you where you are and are still able to push you to become the strongest version of yourself. I started seeing the effects within a few weeks and have gotten many comments on my arms, which helps :) I highly recommend to anyone!Posted on Google![]()

So it's not hyperbole to say that I have been trying my whole life to find an exercise habit that will "stick." I've tried almost everything. But as I reached my mid-50s, I felt a new urgency because I just started to feel myself becoming weaker and could see myself losing muscle. I tried Brain and Body because I could do short, intense sessions--and that fit my schedule. 18 months ago, I started with 2 per week, but quickly increased to 3 times per week because I was feeling so much better after each session. I am feeling stronger than I have in a very long time. I love that I can have 3 sessions a week with a trainer and work on different aspects of my fitness-- strength, balance, coordination, cognitive, cardiovascular. I love that I can see feedback on the machines that challenges me to work harder. I love that I get coaching on building muscle and maintaining long term fitness, all with a very positive atmosphere. It's done wonders for me and I'm really grateful I found it!Posted on Google![]()

I absolutely love the Brain & Body Method! As a full-time working mom of two young kids, finding time to exercise has always been a challenge. But after six months here, I can confidently say (for the first time in my life!) that I am now a regular exerciser and will be able to keep this up. The twice-weekly, 30-minute sessions fit seamlessly into my schedule, making it realistic and sustainable. The workouts are super effective without leaving me exhausted or drenched in sweat, so I can easily fit them in before work or anytime. One of the best parts is that I’m always guided by a personal trainer. The trainers are all fantastic—supportive, knowledgeable, and motivating. Having a scheduled appointment with these amazing coaches makes it easy to stay committed, even when life gets hectic. Plus, the gym’s innovative exercise equipment tracks my progress, so I can actually see my improvements over time. I feel so healthy and strong, and I’m making incredible progress! My arms have never looked better, and unlike other programs, I’m not constantly sore. If you’re looking for a gym that fits into a busy lifestyle while delivering real, lasting results, I can’t recommend Brain & Body Method Gym enough!Posted on Google![]()

I have been going to Brain and Body twice a week for the past four months. I’m happy to say that I am much stronger (and healthier) now. I’m in and out in 30 minutes - which is crucial for my schedule. I love how efficient I can workout there, accomplishing much more there in a half hour than I do on my own with more time. And I can load up with heavier weights more safely, guided by personal trainers. I’ve become more educated recently on the importance of strength training and bone health for women, especially. I’m happy to say that I’ve already made major improvements, proven by my latest dexascan as well as other trackers. The owners are also wonderful, extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to their clients. I’m a big fan and recommend Brian and Body to anyone who wants to make a positive change in their fitness and bone health and/or someone who doesn’t have much time to fit in exercise.Posted on Google![]()

I have been going to Brain and Body for about 8 months and it has been TRANSFORMATIONAL. I, like many people, have a very demanding (both emotionally and physically) full time job , a family and travel to see my aging parents. All this to say that I have no regular schedule or life. I came to BB because I needed more weight training for my bone health. What I found at BB was not only an incredibly welcoming community, but also a group of people that have helped me with my strength, thinking speed, my tennis game (I was a college tennis player) and outlook in life. I no longer feel like I "just have to get through this week". I am physically and mentally stronger and healthier than ever. ( I know this sounds like I am a bot or paid to say this) but it is 100% true! The time investment is small compared to the gains and everything I have received. I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any doubts or questions but I challenge you to go and do a trial period. You will not regret it.Posted on Google![]()

B&BM has been an excellent personal training experience for me over the last 9+ months. I started when I was newly postpartum, when I was short on time but eager to start moving and strengthening my body, in a safe and careful way. I was drawn to B&BM's personal attention and unique equipment + approach to building strength, and I immediately noticed myself getting stronger. 9 months later, I am still challenged each time I go and am continuing to build strength. As a busy working parent, I also really appreciate how efficient the sessions are (<30mins). Highly recommend giving B&BM a try/trial if you are considering, no matter where you are in your fitness journey - it is a great way to push yourself and you will no doubt find the exercises challenging and interesting, and the training team is lovely too!Posted on Google![]()

I heard about the Brain and Body Method through someone I admire and trust. I knew this person wouldn’t steer me wrong. I was looking for something definite to help me meet a fitness challenge and goal I had set for myself. I am 3 months in and I am meeting this particular goal. Plus, I am discovering other health benefits from this training process that I never considered when I committed myself. I do not live locally, and I have a short window of time to work out. That was the first part of this process for me. Could Brain and Body accommodate my schedule? Yes, they did. I was very specific with the day and time, and I got it. I am greeted first thing in the morning after my commute with a smile, excitement, and a physical and mental check-in from my trainer. Then, in just thirty minutes, I leave sweaty and invigorated, and ready to take on my day, which is usually physically and emotionally draining, The session begins with a deep warm-up, and then my trainer personally takes me through the process on state-of-the-art equipment. There is consistency in the challenges, but my trainer changes it up and builds on my progress. It is far from boring! My endurance has strengthened, and my coordination, breathing, and mind-body connection are developing. My mind used to wander. I would be panicking about how many emails I would have when I got out. I would be going through my to-do list while warming up or on the bike. Now, I can stay present and focus on the skills I am building. This is because my trainer stays with me, coaches me through the directives, plays great music, and is proud of me and my progress. My trainer takes time to educate me on what my body is being asked to do and what the equipment is doing for me and even chats with me about nutrition and how to introduce self-care throughout the day so my instrument continues to benefit from the training practice during the day and the days in between our sessions. At the end of the workout, I stretch, hydrate, and leave in the fresh air pumped and primed! In 30 minutes!!! I realized when I started at Brain and Body that I hadn’t changed my workouts in over eight years. I am in my 50s and have a career that requires me to be on my feet and very physical. For 30 years, I had been caring for others and not myself. This practice was going to be a huge challenge because of the logistics and the mental breakthrough I was looking for. So, not only am I getting better because of the core strengthening, cardio, and recovery, but I am sleeping deeper, waking up with no aches and pains, processing my food better, drinking more water, and staying alert longer. The best part is my confidence in myself and my ability to be effective in my career has grown tremendously in such a short time. I knew I could do it, but I had to find the right program. The Brain and Body Method is a positive environment in which the concepts are researched and provided by highly educated and personable people who care deeply about their clients. The studio is spotless. Equipment is always clean; all clients are treated with respect and the place is intimate in the sense that when a few clients are working out at the same time, I don’t even notice them because the trainers are focused on their client and we are all in “the zone”. This is 100% the best decision I have made for myself in a long time. Sometimes, making a small change will bring big results, and with the Brain and Body Method, you might find yourself exceeding your own expectations both mentally and physically. I am now ready to up my game and create a new fitness goal, and The Brain and Body Method will do it for me.Posted on Google![]()

I really appreciate their approach to exercise/wellness. The sessions are fairly brief (but really efficient), so it’s easy to fit it into a busy schedule. They are good at motivating and monitoring form, progress, etc. You have the attention of a personal trainer throughout the session. At age 61, I’m focusing on strength and mobility, stamina. Even though I hadn’t worked out in a few years, and I have ongoing challenges with vertigo, I have been able to make progress. They are very adaptable and respect YOUR goals and your abilities. This is not a place where people yell or shame. The vibe is positive and friendly. Clients are of all ages and levels of fitness. I’m very glad to have found them, and to my surprise, I’ve been very consistent. If you’re on the fence, just try an intro session!Posted on Google![]()

Two words come to mind when describing Brain & Body: efficient and effective. Truth be told I was initially skeptical of their process. I already had a workout and recovery regime in the little free time that I have as a mom of a preschooler with a demanding full time job in finance. I didn’t think adding 20 minutes 2 times a week would make much of a difference as someone who used to train 1-2 hours a day in the gym before having a child. I was also nervous to try something new after sustaining multiple injuries postpartum, but I decided to give it a shot with their generous trial period. And that’s when I realized how great their services truly are and have been hooked since. I finally found a place where I could get 1 on 1 strength coaching with intelligent systems that adjusted to my body’s natural ability in just 20 minutes, along with recovery services when I need it. All the trainers at Brain & Body are pleasant, personable, and know when to push and pull back, taking into account not just your physical strength but where your headspace is at. I didn’t think it was possible to max out in only a few minutes time on several of their sophisticated machines, getting the most out of the short time spent there. I also haven’t felt this strong after avoiding most upper body workouts due to a wrist injury, but the team found ways to circumvent my issues in an effective way. I’m feeling more confident in my own skin and have seen results as measured by their InBody system that’s also available for use, and couldn’t be happier with their services. As someone who has very little free time, Brain & Body is worth adding into my hectic schedule. The team is also extremely understanding of unforeseen schedule changes (read: school closings on snow days, sickness, etc), and has always found a way to accommodate me. Highly recommend coming here. It’s a hidden gem in the heart of Upper Montclair that you won’t regret being a part of.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. WHY OUR METHOD IS IDEAL FOR WOMEN AFTER 40
After 40, it’s common to notice changes like loss of strength, energy, slower recovery, and more stiffness or imbalance than before. That’s because after 30, our bodies naturally begin to lose muscle mass (up to 1% per year) and bone density.
The good news?
You can change the trajectory in as little as two 25min sessions per week.
Discover a safe and effective way to thrive that fits into your busy schedule.
Brain and Body Method places a high priority on SAFE strength training to:
- Preserve and rebuild strength
- Support healthy metabolism and energy levels
- Protect bone density and joint health
- Improve balance, coordination, and confidence
- Reduce the risk of injury and age-related decline
WHAT YOUR TRIAL INCLUDES
Comprehensive intake to understand your needs, prior injuries, your concerns and priorities.
Introduction to our method, guided 1-on-1 by our expert trainers focused on:
- Strength
- Bone Health
- Balance
- Core Stability
- Cardiovascular Fitness
Our trial sessions meet you exactly where you are, our approach is to find your current baseline and gently increase from that point every week, safely and based on how strong you feel that day.
There are no mirrors in our space, it doesn’t look or feel like a gym, there are no free weights banging on the floor.
After your trial, your personal training sessions are between $30-$50, depending on your plan.

As a mom of a three and five-year old I didn't think I would ever find a consistent way to exercise. As soon as I began training at Brain and Body Method, I knew this was something different. Using the latest equipment and research, they have found a way to combine efficiency and thoroughness in a tailored approach. I've never been an exerciser, but I look forward to my sessions each week. And it's working! In just a few short months, I'm making major progress and can see my body changing. I'm so happy I took the gamble with their generous trial and have kept on going!Posted on Google![]()

It’s a hidden gem in the heart of Upper Montclair that you won’t regret being a part of.Posted on Google![]()

I am someone who does not like to work out but somehow am enjoying this method. It’s quick and efficient and the trainers are lovely. Scheduling, even a change, has always been a breeze. After a few weeks I definitely feel stronger. Highly recommend!Posted on Google![]()

Everyone needs to try Brain and Body! I am a mother of two young children and a busy working mom who only used to work out in the house since my first was born. I decided to try Brain and Body out as I need to regain core strength after a c-section. The benefits begin immediately as you gain muscle strength from working on their smart equipment which helps you track your progress. After about six months, I feel much stronger, have more energy and have noticed a change in my body that never happened from just doing cardio exercise in the past. The sessions are quick, 30 mins max, which makes its easy to fit into a busy schedule and serves as a nice way to break up the day. You always have a personal trainer dedicated to your work out to coach you along. They have various types of work out from strength, coordination, core, cognitive fitness, cardio and recovery! Recovery are the best as your muscles go into a state of pure relaxation. If you are feeling like you are stuck in the same workout for too long, you should definitely give this place a try. I promise you will thank me!Load more
